Our Luggage and footwear is sourced from the Tuscany region of Italy. We create most of our pieces using a process called “dip dying”. This process requires a great deal of hand work and skill to deliver product of exceptional quality and style. Each piece is initially made from raw leathers, sewn together with the linings, zippers, trims etc all in place.
We then “dip” or submerge the product into a large barrel of hot dye. The barrel revolves/tumbles, further softening the already supple leathers, and ensuring full coverage of the colour dye. The heat allows the colour to penetrate the materials, setting colour fast into leathers and natural fabrics at varying gradients. A technical challenge during the dyeing process is that each piece physically shrinks in overall size by around 20%, including linings, etc, which makes the pattern design and cutting far more intricate and demanding than usual. This process needs to be regulated carefully to ensure each item is not left for too long in the hot liquid.
The products are then washed in a large industrial washing machine which immediately stops the shrinking process and further assists with the colour fastening. They’re then tumble dried, which further softens the already soft materials, delivering our signature unstructured and dishevelled character.
